Doctoral School

Scholarship

Every doctoral candidate admitted to the doctoral school (except those already holding a doctoral degree) is entitled to a doctoral scholarship for up to four years of education.

These scholarships are exempt from income tax but are subject to pension and retirement contributions (social insurance).

Doctoral scholarship amounts:

  • PLN 3,466.90 gross (approx. PLN 3,076.53 net) per month – during the first two years of education (before the mid-term evaluation).
  • PLN 5,340.90 gross (approx. PLN 4,739.52 net) per month – during the next two years of education (after the mid-term evaluation).

PhD candidates with disabilities are entitled to an increased doctoral scholarship.

Early submission of a doctoral dissertation
A doctoral candidate who submits the dissertation before the official deadline continues to receive the scholarship until the original completion date set in the study program, but for no longer than six months.

In this case, the scholarship is paid as a lump sum, no later than one month after the candidate completes their education. The payment is made on the basis of a decision issued by the Director of the Doctoral School, authorized by the Rector.

Cessation of payment
The scholarship is paid until:

  • the last day of the month in which the candidate is removed from the list of doctoral students, or

  • the statutory deadline for receiving the scholarship expires (4 years).

If removal from the list takes place on or before the 15th day of the month, the candidate receives 50% of the monthly scholarship amount.

Health insurance
Health insurance is mandatory. The doctoral school registers doctoral candidates for health insurance solely in situations explicitly specified by legal regulations.

Health insurance and sickness insurance are two different types of coverage.
