Scholarships

Everyone accepted to the Doctoral School (exept for PhD students holding a doctor's title) receives a doctoral scholarship for not more than four years of their education.

These doctoral scholarships are exempt from tax, but are subject to pension and retirement contribution (social insurance contribution).

Doctoral scholarship amounts:

  • PLN 3 466,90 gross (about PLN 3 076,53 net) per month during the first two years of study (before a mid-term evaluation)
  • PLN 5 340,90 gross (about PLN 4 739,52 net) per month during the next two years (after the mid-term evaluation)

A disabled PhD student receives a doctoral scholarship increased by 30% of the basic amount (before the mid-term evaluation).

The scholarship amounts may be later changed.

Early submission of a doctoral dissertation
A doctoral candidate who has submitted a doctoral dissertation earlier than the deadline for completing education provided for in the education program receives a doctoral scholarship for the period up to the date on which the deadline for completing education expires, but no longer than for 6 months - in the form of a lump sum payment no later than one month from the date of completion of education by the doctoral candidate. Payment is made on the basis of a decision issued by the director of the doctoral school authorized by the rector.

Cessation of payment
The payment of the scholarship ceases on the last day of the month in which the doctoral candidate was removed from the list of doctoral candidates or in which the statutory deadline for receiving the scholarship expired. However, if the removal from the list of doctoral candidates occurred on or before the 15th day of the month, the doctoral candidate receives a scholarship in the amount of 50% of the rate.

Contribution to health insurance is ensured
for doctorants without overlapping titles for insurance coverage (the fulfilling of the conditions
to receive social insurance for more than a single benefit entitlement)
Health insurance providing the right to free health care through being insured within the National Health Fund. National Health Fund, a state unit in the Polish health care system: from the contributions for health insurance are finanaced for insured parties health benefit payments and medical refunds.

Obtain a PESEL Number

If you are foreigner living in Poland, you can register your residence – in such a situation, you will automatically obtain a PESEL Number [Polish acronym for „Universal Electronic System for Registration of the Population”].
