Mid-term evaluation
Mid-term evaluation of the implementation of the individual research plan of the doctoral student takes place within 30 days from the completion of the 4th semester of education at the doctoral school, i.e. in October.
The exact date and place of the mid-term evaluation shall be determined by the head of the doctoral school no later than 14 days before the planned date of the evaluation in consultation with the members of the evaluation committee.
For each of the scientific and artistic disciplines in which doctoral candidate are trained, a separate committee is appointed.
The composition of the committee to carry out the mid-term evaluation, including the chairman of the committee, is appointed by the head of the doctoral school. The Commission is appointed to carry out a mid-term evaluation for the academic year in question.
The committee carrying out the mid-term evaluation shall be composed of three persons:
- one person (as a member) holding the title of professor or the degree of habilitated doctor in the discipline in which the doctoral dissertation is being prepared, employed outside the doctoral entity, recommended by the relevant council of the field,
- two persons (in the role of chairman and member) holding the title of professor or the degree of habilitated doctor in the discipline in which the doctoral dissertation is being prepared, employed in the doctoral entity, who are not the supervisor or auxiliary supervisor of the doctoral student undergoing the assessment, recommended by the relevant council of the field.
The work of the mid-term evaluation committee includes:
- analysis of documentation related to the individual research plan of the doctoral candidate:
- individual research plan and corrections do IRP,
- opinions of the promoter and the field council on IRP,
- report on implementation with annexes (report covers the first and second years) witch the opinion of the supervisor,
- achievements: publications, fragments of the dissertation, artistic works – materials provided on an electronic medium (materials necessary to carry out the mid-term evaluation, primarily publications, ready-made parts of the dissertation, should be submitted to the Office for Degrees on three carriers - one for each member of the commission - by September 5. The need to attach the above-mentioned materials is associated with the assessment of the doctoral student's achievements by the committee).
2. a conversation with a doctoral student, which consists in:
- presentation by the doctoral student of information on the course and degree of implementation of the individual research plan,
- presentation by the doctoral student of information on further plans for the implementation of an individual research plan,
- answering by the doctoral student to any questions asked by the members of the committee.
3. the closed part of the meeting of the commission, which takes place without the participation of a doctoral student.
Criteria for mid-term evaluation:
- the level of implementation of research tasks specified in the individual research plan (the level of advancement of the research project),
- the scientific or artistic level of the doctoral student's achievements related to the scientific or artistic activity specified in the individual research plan,
- achieving the learning outcomes planned at IRP for PQF level 8 qualifications (based on the analysis of documentation and an interview with a doctoral student).
On the basis of the documents submitted by the doctoral candidate and the interview with the doctoral student, each member of the committee fills in the opinion form. The Commission shall examine:
- the adequacy of the doctoral candidate's scientific or artistic activity and the dissemination of its results, specified in the individual research plan, to the learning outcomes for qualifications at PQF level 8 - whether these plans are constructed in such a way that solving research problems, which are the subject of doctoral dissertations, is accompanied by research or artistic activity of doctoral students and dissemination of its results to the extent that guarantees the achievement of learning outcomes specified for the qualifications at the PQF level 8,
- the level of achievement of learning outcomes for PQF level 8 qualifications defined in the individual research plan – whether the planned learning outcomes have been achieved and whether the methods used optimally lead to their achievement,
- the level of scientific or artistic achievements of doctoral students related to scientific or artistic activity specified in the individual research plan – assessment of the level of the most important achievements of doctoral students in terms of the scientific or artistic significance of these achievements (achievements of doctoral students that are related to the implementation of an individual research plan),
- the level of implementation of research tasks specified in the IRP (level of advancement of the research project),
- threats to the successful implementation of the individual research plan (risks),
- assessment of the deadline for submitting the doctoral dissertation specified in the individual research plan in terms of the possibility of implementation / recommendation to change the date,
- others (for example: internationalization of scientific activity, interdisciplinarity).
The mid-term evaluation shall end with a positive or negative result. The result of the evaluation is determined by secret ballot, with only the following votes being possible: "positive assessment" or "negative assessment". The final result of the vote is decided by a majority of votes.
The mid-term evaluation protocol shall contain the evaluation and the justification. In the case of a positive assessment, the protocol may contain recommendations for further improvement of the individual research plan. The minutes shall be signed by all members of the committee. The minutes shall be submitted by the chairman of the committee to the head of the doctoral school no later than 7 days after the assessment.
The result of the mid-term evaluation is confirmed by an entry in the POL-on system.
The university shall make available to the doctoral student the result and justification of the assessment no later than 7 days after receipt of the protocol.
The mid-term evaluation shall be carried out in the presence of all members of the committee. The assessment may be carried out using electronic means of communication allowing its progress to be recorded.
The Doctoral School Council may lay down additional rules for carrying out the mid-term evaluation taking into account the provisions of these Regulations no later than 6 months before the mid-term evaluation.
A negative assessment results in the removal of a doctoral student from the list of doctoral candidates.
A positive assessment results in an increase in the doctoral scholarship from 37% to 57% of the minimum salary of a professor of a public UNIVERSITY - after the month in which the mid-term evaluation is carried out. A doctoral candidate after a mid-term evaluation may be employed as an academic teacher or researcher, however, if he works in excess of half of the full-time work, the scholarship is 40% of the regular monthly scholarship awarded to him after the mid-term evaluation.
