The doctoral student, in consultation with his/her supervisor(s), prepares an individual research plan, including, in particular, a schedule for the preparation of the doctoral dissertation and presents it to the entity administering the doctoral school within 12 months from the date of commencement of education. If an assistant supervisor is appointed, the plan is presented after the supervisor's opinion.

The implementation of the plan is subject to a mid-term evaluation in the middle of the education period specified in the curriculum.

A doctoral student, in consultation with his/her supervisor, develops an individual research plan in the first year of education at a doctoral school and submits it to the director of the doctoral school between 1 and 30 September, together with the opinion of the supervisor or supervisors and in the case of appointing an assistant supervisor, also with the opinion of the supervisor.

A doctoral student may submit a request for amendments to the individual research plan, but these changes may be introduced no more than once a year.

The individual research plan specifies:

  1. type of doctoral dissertation (e.g. manuscript, monograph, series of publications, project work, artistic work),
  2. basic theses of the dissertation,
  3. a general description of the methodology of the dissertation,
  4. important stages of the preparation of the dissertation, with the deadlines for achieving them.

An individual research plan is subject to an opinion by the field council relevant to the discipline in which the doctoral student is trained, and is approved by the head of the doctoral school within 3 months of obtaining a positive opinion from the relevant field council.

The field council may issue a positive, negative or conditional opinion (recommending specific changes to the plan). In the case of a negative or conditional opinion, it is necessary to submit a correction to the plan within one month of receiving the opinion of the field council.

A doctoral student may submit a request for amendments to the individual research plan, but these changes may be introduced no more than once a year. Corrections to individual research plans are submitted by the deadline set annually by the director of the doctoral school.

From the second year of education, the doctoral student submits a Report on the Individual Research Plan to the Director of the Doctoral School witch supervisor's opinion by 30 June after the second, third and fourth year of education.

At the written request of a doctoral student, the Director may extend the deadline for submitting the report to 25 September. A doctoral student who submitted a report by 30 June may submit a supplementary report covering the period from 1 July to 25 September.
