Research Budgets
Costs of conducting research related to the preparation of a doctoral dissertation
§ 13 of the Regulations of the Doctoral School

  1. The costs of conducting research related to the implementation of the Individual Research Plan, including the preparation of the doctoral dissertation and the dissemination of research results, are covered from the financial resources allocated to the doctoral school for the research activity of doctoral candidates, in accordance with the regulations in force at the University.
  2. In consultation with the supervisor, the doctoral candidate prepares a research budget related to the preparation of the doctoral dissertation and submits it to the Director of the Doctoral School. The Director of the Doctoral School makes a decision within the limits of the funds referred to in section 1.
  3. The budget referred to in section 2 is prepared for a period of one calendar year. The doctoral student submits the budget no later than 16 January of the given year.
  4. After the decision referred to in section 2 has been issued, information on the amount of funds awarded to doctoral candidates is communicated to the Vice-Rector for Research by the end of January of the given year.
  5. Funds not allocated by doctoral candidates (i.e. not included in requisition forms or travel applications) by 30 September of the given year become a reserve of the Director of the Doctoral School until the funds are transferred to the reserve of the Vice-Rector for Research. Funds not spent by the end of the year are subject to return to the University’s general account.
  6. After exhausting the financial resources referred to in section 2, the doctoral candidate may apply to the Director of the Doctoral School for the allocation of additional funds for the implementation of the Individual Research Plan. The application is reviewed by the supervisor.

  7. The costs of conducting research related to the preparation of a doctoral candidate’s dissertation may also be covered from other financial resources allocated to the University for research purposes and remaining at the disposal of the supervisor (e.g. a grant). In such a case, the supervisor provides the Director of the Doctoral School with information on the financial resources at the supervisor’s disposal allocated for research related to the preparation of the doctoral dissertation for the given calendar year.
  8. The rules for settling travel costs related to the implementation of the Individual Research Plan or the doctoral training programme are regulated by a separate order of the Rector.
  9. The supervisor, in consultation with the Dean of the faculty competent for the discipline in which the doctoral training is conducted, oversees the doctoral candidate’s access to the research infrastructure necessary for the implementation of the Individual Research Plan.
